How did we get from here:

Then God looked over all he had made, 

and he saw that it was very good!

If my misery could be weighed 

and my troubles be put on the scales, 

they would outweigh all the sands of the sea.

The 3 Sources of Suffering

1. DEVIL 

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.    -1 Peter 5:8

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.    -John 10:10

2. DETOURS 

17 And to the man he said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. 

18 It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. 19 By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.”    -Genesis 3:17-19


3. DECAY 

20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, 21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. 22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.    -Romans 8:20-22 

The Courageous Response: CHOOSE HOPE


And we know that God causes everything to work together[m] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.    -Romans 8:28
