Chapter 2

1. God’s Love PURIFIES our LIVES

1 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.    -1 John 2:1-2 (NLT)

(Jesus) gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.    -‭‭Titus‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ (‭NIV‬‬)

2. God’s Love INCREASES our LOVE 

7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. 8 Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.    -1 John 2:7-8 (NLT)

I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.    -‭‭Luke‬ ‭7‬:‭47‬ (NLT)


3. God’s Love BUILDS our FAITHFULNESS

24 So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. 25 And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life he promised us.    -1 John 2:24-25 (NLT)

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.   -Ezekiel 36:26 (NLT)
