Spiritual Growth for Ordinary People

Part 3 of 4 |  Feb 14, 2021

Steven Barker | @stevenjbarker

“A man had two sons. The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons.“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living.

Luke 15:11-13

“When he finally came to his senses, he said to himself, ‘At home even the hired servants have food enough to spare, and here I am dying of hunger! 18I will go home to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, 19and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired servant.”’

Luke 15: 17-19

COMMUNITY: Realizing you are an indispensable part of God’s family.

FULFILLING YOUR PART OF GOD’S FAMILY:

1. Be PRESENT

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

2. Don’t worry about DO, instead BE

'But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.'

1 Corinthians 12:18,22,26

Ways to Connect with God’s Family:

  • Don’t do it alone (Hebrews 10:24))

  • Know Each Other (1 Peter 3:8)

  • Disciple One Another (Proverbs 27:17)
