TURNING FAILURE INTO SUCCESS

TURNING FAILURE INTO SUCCESS

Stranger Things - Part 7 of 7| May 29, 2022

Some Causes of Failure

Arrogance

“Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” - Proverbs 16:18

Disobedience

“So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.” - I John 1:6

Doubt

“But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” - James 1:6

Discouragement

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” - Galatians 6:9

HOW TO RECOVER FROM FAILURE

Luke 5:1-11

1. Invite Jesus into the situation

“Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.” - Luke 5:3-4

2. Admit my efforts have failed

“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing...” - Luke 5:5a

“People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.” - Proverbs 28:13

3. Obey whatever Jesus tells me to do

“Jesus said, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to

catch some fish.” - Luke 5:4b

“Master,” Simon replied, ‘we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.” - Luke 5:5

4. Expect Jesus to turn things around

“…Because of your faith, it will happen.” - Matthew 9:29b

“And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!” A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.” - Luke 5:6-7

“You will not succeed by your own strength or power, but by my Spirit says the Lord.” - Zechariah 4:6 (NCV)
