7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.    -Matthew 7:7-8

Two Big Prayer Mistakes:

  • Our prayers are TOO SMALL

  • Our prayers are TOO GENERAL


What are we asking for?

1. “MOUNTAIN MOVING” prayers

Listen! The LORD's arm is not too short to save, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.    -Isaiah 59:1



2. “AS LONG AS IT TAKES” prayers

1 One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. 3 A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ 4 The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, 5 but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”    -Luke 18:1-5

3. “MY GOD CAN, BUT EVEN IF HE DOESN’T” prayers

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”    -Daniel 3:16-18




4. “ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL” prayers

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him. 

-1 John 5:14-15

We can pray according to God's will, by praying God's Word. 

If we want our prayers to be powerful, we need to learn to pray 

the promises in God's word back to Him. 

There are more than 7,000 promises from God in the Bible.
